Authoress

I am Cassidy.

I am a 21 year old girl and I like the smell of books, vanilla ice cream, springtime and probably you.

I was born in Idaho and have since lived in various places, including; Minnesota, New Jersey, England, and Mexico (as a missionary). I call Utah home and have lived here for enough time to understand the grid system, know which mountains are best for skiing, and have an opinion on the cafe rio vs costa vida controversy. I am studying English teaching at BYU and love every moment.

I decided to star this blog discussing my faith. I am a Mormon. But to me that is not a simple label. As humans we are all complex, and as a human my beliefs reflect that. So when I say that this blog is to discuss my faith, I mean the beliefs that are personal to me. These beliefs may not entirely reflect the Mormon church as an organization or the general members'.

Why write a blog?

{first} This blog is for me to work out my own beliefs. I am learning so much every day and I learn by writing. The beliefs that I write here may change overtime and putting them on the internet to be immortalized is scary, but it's just me chronicling the evolution of my beliefs and myself as a daughter of God.

{second} To share my perhaps slightly unorthodox beliefs. For a long time I felt lonely when I sat in the pew at church. I felt that no one else felt or thought the same way I did. I do not think that is true. I think there are many who think similarly to myself. I write for them. And I write with the hope that we can find each other, understand one another, and become better through our diversity of opinions as well as our unifying similarities.

What's up with the title?

The title "one of the believers" comes from one of my very favorite scriptures, 1 Tim 4:12:
"Let no nam despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."
I have loved this scripture since my early days as a Beehive. Now I love it even more. I think the plurality of the word "believers" is very important in this scripture. It doesn't say to be "an example of the believer" this scripture realizes the plurality and diversity of opinions that will be had even in a unifying faith.

It is easy to think that all members of the LDS Church think the same. And it is easy to desire that we all behave and believe the same way. But the Gospel is highly individualistic. We will not all think, believe, or behave the same even though we share the same underlying belief system. And that is okay! That is something God planned on. It is something God encourages.

This is just a voice of one believer. One believer among many. I share the same church, the same heritage, the same faith, and the same goals for the future. My personal interpretations of the Gospel and applications of it's principles may be different than yours. And that's just fine.
